The Godfather of the Lighting business, William M. Brown, is the guest on Episode 10 of the show. His story transcends lighting into the realm of classic American success story. His adventure starts in the 1950’s and works its way through several industry transformations. Nevermind LED or CFL – Mr. Brown went through the original linear fluorescent lighting disruption! It was a real honor for us to speak to him and we hope you enjoy our time with a legit American business legend.
Having been an employee for many years (24-1/2 years), I throughly enjoyed watching your podcast interview with my ex-employer, Bill Brown.
Bill hired me back in 1981 as his Director of Purchasing to develop his purchasing department in order to prepare for his future projected growth.
During my tenure, I also was his HR manager for 13 years, as well as his molding and metalizing production scheduler.
I left the company in 2005 when my services were no longer required.
It’s been a long time since I heard the story of BBS and ALP, which is why I really enjoyed your podcast so much.
After leaving ALP, I pretty much retired from Corporate America. However, in 2010 I created my own product and started my own company (not lighting related). Where I am today in life I owe to Bill Brown.
One thing he always instilled when I worked at ALP, and was surprised that I didn’t hear him mention it, was that “when it comes to the customer, there is no tomorrow.”
I know Bill passed away last year. He will never be forgotten.
